Under a sun drenched sky, the 5 of us set off from Poplar2000 at 9am for a short ride down the A50 to Knutsford-A537-A34 for breakfast at The Old Barn Marton for a quality breakfast, served outside under the blanket of blue.
Suitably ladened with fodder and an hour later at 10.30, it was off for a tour of Derbyshire through to Staffordshire, but thanks to workmen actually doing their navi work, our route was disrupted and a detour entailed, taking us back to Macclesfield and the Cat & Fiddle was ridden, taking it easy as Farmer Giles and his amazing farmer friends deposited shite all over the roads.
Up Grinlow to Harpur Hill down the A515 to Ashbourne, fantastic road which would have been much better but for numb nuts who only come out on Sunny Sundays. We could have carried along the A515 but this would have meant us arriving at our lunch stop very early so a detour down the A52 towards Derby with a double back along Long Lane, a route I used to take when I worked in Derby a few years back in 2014. Thankfully, the detour worked very well for timing as we arrived at The Royal Oak, King’s Bromley bang on time at 12.45.
Seeing as our breakfast was a hearty sample, we decided on a having snack, unless your name is Karen, who thought it wise to take a Sunday chicken roast dinner on board. (Bloater). Have to say, the cheesy 🧀 chips 🍟 were the best I’ve ever had.
A well-earned break, and it was off again for another cross country, back lanes (no goat tracks, nor dead end housing estates) for our final stop. This was changed from the George and Dragon in Holmes Chapel to Harrington Arms over in Bosley, south of Macclesfield.
A cracking 141 miles riding. It was great to get out again and lead a ride.
Thanks to everyone who attended both rides today.
Next Monthly outing is Presidents Day, July 13th. This is a short ride then back to ours in Altrincham for a BBQ. Keep an eye on the event on FB group page.
Thanks Mr P
